@Maren Bruun not at all! Still haven’t give up fully though! Last weekend we were at the beach and the tide was way out in Texada and he actually seemed to be having fun in water up to his lower belly! He followed me running into the water and looked happy 😅 he will also spin in the water! I think for him he just isn’t really a fan of being wet because whenever he is he shakes furiously, wipes his whole body on anything he can find and then proceeds to lick himself 😂 if you have any other swimming tips I’m all ears! Arlie on the hand loves the water! To the point where back in the winter we couldn’t keep her out of the water and would swim with seals for 45 minutes while we called her on the beach.. that was stressful! She now has better boundaries when it comes to water but still there could be improvement there!
🔄 SWITCH SIDE WALKING: A Fun and Useful Trick 🪄
Hey, adventurers! 🌟 Check out these two short videos of me working with two different dogs, teaching them to switch sides while walking. This is a fantastic technique that can help when you want distance or need to use your body as a soft barrier when passing people, dogs, or other distractions .. city sidewalk or single=track trail. 🚸 🔄 THE TECHNIQUE: Switching sides from heel position (left to right, or vice versa) is like teaching your dog to glide gracefully from one side of you to the other while walking. It’s great for creating space, controlling movement, and keeping your dog focused on you, rather than what’s happening around them! 💪 👩‍🏫 WHO’S DOING THE WORK? Is it the dog? Is it the human? 🤔 Honestly, it's a little bit of both! This trick can be done at different levels, so whether you're working with a low-level trained dog or a seasoned pro, you can absolutely make it happen with some practice. 🌟 💡 TIPS FOR SUCCESS: 1. Start without a leash — Practice this move until you're both fluent at it. 2. Add the leash later — Once the dog has the hang of it, introduce a leash for better control. 3. Bonus: If you’ve already taught your dog to spin, this trick will be even easier to add to your training toolkit! This technique is super helpful for all dogs, and with some patience, both you and your dog will get smoother with every walk! 🐾 💬 Have you tried teaching your dog to switch sides during walks? Share your experience below, or let me know if you need any tips to get started! 👇 Drop a comment or ask a question—I’m here to help you out! @Lolah Muller @Alison Dasovic

Aw it’s Bodhi!! ❤️ This was so cool seeing you work with Bodhi in this way! I was pretty amazed that this video was taken within the first few minutes of you teaching Bodhi to do this trick! Definitely shows that good dog training mechanics create clarity!!

@Maren Bruun haha I haven’t quite gotten him to switch quite as well as you still 🙈 need to put some more reps in!

Alright, ACE Crew, it’s check-in time! 👀🔭 It’s been a quiet weekend here (I get it—summer’s calling us all! 😎). What's a Book That Changed Your Life with Your Dog? 📖🐾
I wanted to share a few dog book titles with you. 📚 I’ve read out a few in the video attached, but the ONE book that has really stood the test of time since it was written in 2002 is: 🦴Bones Would Rain from the Sky – Deepening Our Relationships with Dogs ❤️ by Suzanne Clothier Interesting tidbit: I’ve attended a few workshops and seminars with Suzanne over the decades, and her teachings still stick with me today. Her ideas about connection, trust, and understanding with our dogs have shaped how I approach training and life with them. 📚What about you? ➡️ Share a book that’s made a difference in your life with your dog, and a quick 1-line takeaway. Let’s trade ideas and inspire each other—your next favourite read might be just a comment away! 🐶💚

When I first got Bodhi I picked the wrong book ‘the art of raising a new puppy’ by the monks of new skete. I didn’t finish it and was sure that type of training wasn’t for me within a week or two but wish I never picked it up! I initially thought ‘wow this book is written by Monks, sounds perfect’. I also have read some of ‘your dog is your mirror’ and learned some interesting things but it’s pretty heady. Otherwise haven’t really known what to read but will definitely put that books by Suzanne on my list!
Practicing teaching STOP and looking for feedback :)
@Maren Bruun can you take a look at my mechanics? Is it ok that I have the treats in my hand while I’m doing this? We just progressed from just saying STOP and GO while out for walks to chasing a plain kibble and saying STOP during the chase. Is this too big of a jump in difficulty or just right? I do have to position my body between him and the treat. Also is the command ‘stop’ too close to ‘spot’? Didn’t realize it until I was already training it. He also has the cues ‘sit’, ‘speak’ and ‘spin’. Hope I’m not confusing him 😅Looking forward to hearing tips and feedback! Anyone else working on or have taught your dog STOP? Would love to hear the steps you took and how you progressed from the basics to real life scenarios!

@Maren Bruun wow Maren! This is amazing feedback! Thank you so much for taking the time 🙏 Bodhi and I are getting so much out of our one on one sessions with you and this group! ❤️ We will continue to work on stop! I did get him to stop with no movement to my body when the treat was further away from him and he hadn’t started running too much yesterday which was a win! Sometimes when we are outside on a long leash and he’s too far ahead he will come back to me rather than actually stopping. So for now while outside we are working it when he’s around 5 feet ahead, to the side or a little behind! I’m hopeful as he gains more clarity that stop means to freeze he will know he doesn’t need to come back just stay where he is!
