Haybales & Chromatic Scales
Yesterday during my lesson with @Sheri Hudgins I had a revelation about a metaphor for how chromatic scale segments should sound: They should have a certain momentum to them like, a haybale being thrown into a truck. Not robotic and all the same. There should be a crescendo that creates momentum to the note you're headed to... like the momentum you need to lift something heavy over a fence! Hold in your mind the note you're aiming for and gain momentum towards it!

I'll try this when I get back home. Saw a scottish piper play today and a celtic flutist. So fun!

Wish I could, but I have orchestra rehearsal tonight. When I'm back from vacation I'm going to try to get to Monday nights more often!
The Mini-Improv Challenge Can be Completed in 1 hour!
Do you want to improve your improvising in the next 30 days?? Listening to my recordings has been the single most important action in my improv journey! The mini-improv challenge consists of 10 thirty-sec recordings. I'm inviting you to play it with a peer group... because I know some of you will not show up to something you haven't paid for and expressed to other people you're committing to do! That's what the Mini-Improv Challenge Group is for! The goal will be noticeable improvisation improvement by the end of the month. There will be prizes, beyond personal achievement. But if all you achieved was noticing that you're a better improviser, wouldn't that be worth it? Get accountability with other improving improvisers and extra YouTube support calls. The doors are closing mid-month (and prices are still low for founders). There's a private party at the end of the month for challenge-completers too. If you don't complete the challenge, you're out! Need that extra nudge? Are you in?

Is this an ongoing challenge, so it happens month after month? When are the Zoom meetings? I want to jump in. I'm going to be away for 10 days starting Tuesday, so is this just 10 videos by month end or do they have to be done once per week, etc.? Sorry for all the questions! I really got motivated when we did this 1:1 in the Spring, so I'm totally into this!
Trad Scottish or Irish improv?
Has anyone tried improv against any traditional Irish or Scottish tunes? I do this with the cello sometimes but haven't tried it on flute. Curious if anyone's found any tunes that sound particularly nice on flute.

@Vic Wheeler There is one tune I know that could be fun. It's a slower Scottish tune with only a few chords called Wild Mountain Thyme. I'll post a recording when I try it!

Piccolo, concert, and alto. Wish I had a bass...maybe someday! Never played a contrabass but would LOVE to try one sometime. I can only imagine how much breath is needed, but it would be so fun to try.

I play both cello and flute. I've played flute for many eons and played cello for a few years when I was younger and came back to it 6 years ago.
