Cool gig I did
I just wanna share a cool gig I did recently. I got the opportunity to work as an A2 for FloSports on the broadcast of the Penn Relays I mostly hanged in the press box with the commentators, RA, track and crowd mics, and on field interviews. There were a few times where I would fill in for the A1 and take mixing controls during the broadcast

So cool!!! There’s definately a big AV market in sports. I’ve never run a sports event before. Typically, how many inputs are you managing?
Analog or Digital?
Hey Sound Guys and Gals, I’m curious to know if you have any experience using a mixer. And if so, do you use an Analog or Digital mixer? Let me know what you guys are working with!

@Arshan Sampath fair enough! Keeping it simple can be the most effective thing a lot of times. What kind of analog mixer do you use?

@MaryAnn Fricko awesome! Hopefully this proves useful. If you want, in the classroom tab you can get just the Sound Guy 101 “mixer” module. Check it out! It’s a great starting point.
Do you do video?
I’ve been having to do video a lot lately with my AV work. Multi ins and outs, it’s pretty cool. I still have a lot to learn about resolution, EDID, and bandwidth protocols. But so far so good, I’m loving it. Sometimes the videos these doctors are playing aren’t really what I want to see at 7am in the morning…. But hey, it’s work! Wondering if you do a lot of video in your work, and what was the most helpful thing for you in acquiring video skills?

@Mariana Ponce yeah, it’s definitely a new universe. I’m starting to get the hang of it, but there’s so much new terminology and concepts. The networking thing is a lot of it. And yes… the surgery footage kind of turned me off of my breakfast!
That crazy room
Heyo. I shared this on instagram, but since I was hyping it up over here I’ll show you guys too. Really wild experience. We ended up using 7 speakers for the mains. In a super live room like this, the key is get as much speaker coverage as you can (while being cautious of placement to avoid comb filtering). I ended up getting a really good sound; The audience heard every word. I attribute that somewhat to proper gain staging and EQ, but the most important factor was the amount of speakers used, and the placement of the speakers. Hope you find this interesting!

@Mariana Ponce sorry I missed your reply! Yeah. I visited the chichen itza in 2024, and it was remarkable. I’ve been looking everywhere for an impulse response of it!!!! That would be so freaking cool to use creatively.

@Mariana Ponce Do it!!!! I want it so bad! 😝 it’d be weird, but so cool.
Craziest room I’ve ever worked in
Dudes, I’m in Toronto right now on a gig, and you won’t believe the sound of the main ballroom. I wanted to get a video to show you guys, but we ran late with setup and had to leave right after. Tomorrow before the event, I’ll take a video and show you how insane this room is. (Cool, but not cool for sound guys!!!!) I’ll love to hear your opinions on what you’d do with a room that’s as live as this one. I’ve never worked in such a sonic mess before. It’s like a big dome, everything slaps back and there’s phase cancelation everywhere (with no speakers!). This is wild. I’ll share more tomorrow morning!

@Tristan Leynes that would be awesome… But it’s a corporate panel event with only speech 😭

This is a quick sneak peek of the room. Look at these super high, dome ceilings. I can’t walk around and make noise right now, but when the event is done I’ll show you guys what this monstrosity sounds like. Stay tuned
