Something you learned in the last month
So, I want to know something you have learned in the last month that has made a huge impact on your playing. Or something that feels like a huge turning point for you! I learned recently that having my knuckles slightly raised in third position will help my intonation. It’s really made me think about my left hand placement and my thumb too. Damn, lots of work but even this little nugget has really made a difference I think! How about you?

@Abbie Layne I LOVE montunos!! Just tonight at a standards jam someone called "Softly" and I waxed montunos and rtm section followed me! I would love to know what book you are using? Do you hear them in these changes too?
"Them There Eyes" Bowing???
Since this tune is played REALLY fast at jams... how do you all bow the opening phrase of the melody? The string crossing is killing me!! I'm considering playing it in third position to increase my speed...

@Matt Holborn Thank You!
Transcription Labs
Hi all just planning next months Transcription Lab for VIP members. (Transcription Labs are where we get the chance to perform a solo or section of a solo that we are working on for the group. From memory and along to the recording) Pick the one that works for you best but maybe let me know in the comments if you could also do one of these others. If you fancy joining us, just level up to VIP tier on here below! https://www.skool.com/jazzviolin/plans

Challenge! Play this line and post it. I think I play something like this 100 times on every gig… There are 4 levels to this, you can pick which one is most doable for you right now…. 1- Exactly the same as myself, in C Major 2- Try it in a few different keys 3- Start like I do and finish it off a little differently. 4- improvise over a backing track and use this line in your improv My 46 lines course in the classroom has a number of lines that work in a similar way (they are a little more straight forward and all in G) all transcribed and explained fully. Get hold of it here https://www.skool.com/jazzviolin/classroom

@Matt Holborn I’ve been judging myself harshly for being “too cerebral” especially when I used to just arpeggiate over each bar, but thanks to Bill interview here I feel vindicated and confident again about being a bit cautious in my note selection. Tx again for this.
