Hi, I’m Juan — an information scientist and entrepreneur with a deep passion for organizing knowledge. Right now, I’m especially focused on how AI can transform the literature research process, making it faster, smarter, and even more fun. But at the core of everything I do is a desire to build better ways for people to explore, connect with, and make sense of the world’s knowledge. At the same time, I have serious concerns about the current state of academia. Frankly, I’m frustrated that we haven’t moved beyond the grip of traditional scientific publishers — institutions that once served a purpose but have now become bloated, profit-driven gatekeepers. More broadly, I’m skeptical that the scientific process, as it stands, is living up to its potential. Peer review, in particular, often falls short of its promise to separate good science from bad. And the "Publish or Perish" culture incentivizes quantity over quality, pushing researchers to chase metrics like the h-index instead of real insight or innovation. I believe we can build something better — more open, more meaningful, and more aligned with the true spirit of science.

@Dennis Wichter 😂 Soil Nerd it is then! Ok, that makes sense. But over the long term... do you think no-till builds more resilience into the system? Or does it depend too much on context to generalise?
Topic Of The Week: Past Lives
The discussion for this week is the concept of Past Lives or Reincarnation. There are obviously strong cultural and religious beliefs around this topic but I am curious about the scientific evidence either supportive or against this topic. i was talking with a friend of mine this weekend about this concept and I am so fascinated. I have attached my notes from my ChatGPT discussion on this topic. I am curious from a scientific stand point what evidences do you have on this topic either pro or against. Please share with the group best evidence on this topic. Poll Question: Do you believe in the concept of past Lives?

I have to admit. My love of science is almost as deep as my love for religions, spirituality and philosophy. On the question about reincarnation, I tend to side with the Hindus (but with a little twist, I think). I don't think an individual soul is passing from one body to another. I believe that the eternal soul of the Brahman permeates everything. I believe that every life is your past life. I believe we are all god, masking ourselves for fun. I like to think about Karma in this way. We are not sending out good energy into the universe that boomerangs back. We are literally doing good to ourselves. Everybody who has ever existed is you. We are all one.

Ohh boy! I am currently nerding about AI tools in research. In my eyes, there is one true king. Andy Stapleton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz8lg_3j3Ok
