Getting the Subconscious Team on Board.
I was introduced to Sigil making by Mark Vnicent, author of The sigil Secret in a series of live online trainings over on the Order of the Phoenix (which is actually a tarot based platform.)
It was from this platform that I first met and fell in love with Louisa who was teaching eclipses...
Sigil making is a branch of chaos magic. It is simply a way of communicating with the deeply buried subconscious parts of ourselves that participate in our daily lives from the deep shadows of backstage…
From its hidden niches, the subconscious can trap us on modes of behavior learned as survival mechanisms in early life.
I think of sigils as little pieces of visual DNA crafted by me, that communicate a new operation protocol to my subconscious. Who then does it's best to alert me when I am loosing the plot, and redirect me as per the new protocols.
In his book The Sigi Secret, Mark Vincent explains how it all works.
There are preparatory exercises designed to bring clarity and confidence to the process. All of this is also explained on Mark’s website.
These are cool to do. Even highly amusing.
But if you want to go straight to the process of communicating with the subconscious “team”. Then start out with your statement.
AS an Example--
- “I have got this.” or
- “I am perfect. I have got this.”
Compress this statement by removing all vowels and doubled consonants.
- VGTHS… easy peasy
- MPRFCTVGHS.. No less easy peasy after a few runs through.
The next stage is to assemble these letters into a singular visual plot/ story/ symbol..
I do this inside a circle.
How you do this is up to you. I use capital letters. Not a given.
I connect up the letters platforming one onto another.
Letters can flip, rotate, be capitalised or not and even do ballet or sing on a good day. They are your letters. You make the rules.
When the sigil is complete you will notice some letter parts, that represent where the letter began, or where the line finished…(that have not just linked and morphed into other letters). For these beginning lines, add a small circle at the end of line to signify (unattached) line beginning. And for the ending line of a letter- (that have not just linked and morphed into other letters)-- finish these with a small vertical tail to signify a dynamic of line ending.
I do not know of any reason for this other than it looks good and feels satisfying, and it is the one concrete suggestion made by my teacher.
So I do it. It kind of makes things look special.
After the first trial… If You Want…you can select parts of the construction you like, retaining them, and drop parts that you do not like. (Thus constructing a new sigil related to your earlier trial, yet simpler, and perhaps more beautiful. Which is what you want.
This is a simplifying process, and is very useful especially with longer statements.
Because the subconscious team are always with you, these exclusions do not trip anything up. They just create a nicer visual story and feeling, and that is something that makes everyones happy.
The sigil is “done” when you say it is done. For me this is when it looks beautiful… or done…or When that quiet voice says “Yes.”...
Last, you can activate the sigil in any way that means” activate sigil “to you. You might not need to do this. Oftentimes my sigils activate themselves. They can do this because they are living bits of DNA or visual stories or whatever you want to call it. (And because I am paying attention and notice the energy coming back towards me from the sigil.).
I think it took me a few weeks making sigils to notice this. For me it is a kind of slightly fizzly sensation, like a form of quiet excitement or recognition… that is slightly different to my baseline feeling of excitement.
The usual form of activation for a sigil is to burn it.
Under a starry, starry sky.. Or the rising sun….What is not deeply satisfying about that?
Yes, I do this. We all seem to enjoy it.
Also burning the sigil you have created together with your subconscious team is helpful, because it is a gesture of letting go of attachment… of trust. Like saying “Here, I have done my part. Over to you now Mr SubconsciouspantsTeam."
Choosing an astrological time of significance.. potentially enlists a whole extra layer of support.
I do this shamelessly. I imagine my Astrological, spiritual, subconscious partners all standing on the periphery of the drawn circle around the sigil as we together bring it into life.

O dear--- one last and important thing to say--
One final word.. I would not personally make a sigil for myself stating "I've got this." This I used only as an example to help a beautiful fellow student
This is because this would be an instruction for my subconscious to get out of my way and effectively do nothing. .. which is Not what I, personally want. I want my subconscious working alongside me to achieve a common goal. This is a very different energy.
So, if I have an issue --say (here is a Real one) with nervousness before singing performances... I would not say something along the lines of back off, I've got this. I would identify the issue. Performance anxiety, and my sigil would be about navigating performance with ease.
My sigil might say-- :I am in good voice and perform with ease. It could even sound silly, but be completely to the point, like "performance joy, easy peasy,." Then in the performance context both my conscious and more importantly subconscious creative energies would all be pulling in the same direction.
What I have learned from this process, is that I freaking adore my subconscious.
