I ran a workshop today in my guitar community and it didn’t go well.
Had about 8 people on the call and as I was teaching and it just kind of fell apart. I got flustered and realized I had no idea what I was doing.
Finally I just stopped and said… “I’m sorry everyone. I realize this isn’t going well. I’m doing a terrible job explaining this”
Everyone was very kind and encouraging.
I regrouped. And tried again.
I threw my plan out the window and just started talking about what I love about the song and my personal approach. I just went off on all the cool insights that get me excited about music and the song.
From there it went much better.
Some of my key takeaways were:
- trust yourself and your insights
- Be yourself. Be vulnerable
- “Failing” is growing/learning/practice
- Do not try to over teach. Pick one small idea.
Thanks for reading. I pray this helps you take a step towards doing the thing you’re afraid you.
