Proverbs 2:22 — “but the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.”
Proverbs 2 is a father’s call to his son, urging him to incline his ear to wisdom, to cry out for understanding, to seek knowledge as silver and hidden treasure. The promise is that if we do this, “then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God” (Proverbs 2:5). Wisdom is covenant revelation: from the Lord’s own mouth come knowledge and understanding. He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous and is a shield to those who walk uprightly.
This wisdom delivers from the way of evil men who leave the paths of righteousness to walk in darkness, and from the “strange woman,” the spirit of seduction that forsakes the covenant of God. Wisdom preserves life and integrity; folly leads to ruin and separation.
The climax comes in the closing verses: “For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it” (Proverbs 2:21–22). This is not just ancient judgment—it is a spiritual law that runs through the Gospel. Jesus said: “Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up” (Matthew 15:13). Proverbs 2:22 is a declaration of separation: the wicked will not simply stumble; they will be cut off and rooted out completely.
Wisdom roots us in God’s truth; wickedness leaves us rootless and destined to fall. Jesus confirmed this: “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit” (John 15:1–2). To remain in Christ is to remain in the land of promise; to reject Him is to be cut off.
Again, Jesus warned: “Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire” (Matthew 7:19). This mirrors Proverbs 2:22: the righteous remain, the wicked are uprooted. The uprooting is total. Only what the Father has planted will endure.
The same truth is in the parable of the wheat and tares: “Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn” (Matthew 13:30). Wisdom preserves the wheat—the upright who remain. Folly condemns the tares—the wicked who are rooted out.
Therefore Proverbs 2:22 stands as both warning and promise: seek wisdom like treasure. In wisdom we find Christ, the Word made flesh, our righteousness. To reject Him is to walk in darkness and be cut off. To embrace Him is to remain forever, rooted and established in truth.

Proverbios 2:22 — El Camino de la Sabiduría y el Fin de los Impíos
Proverbios 2 es el llamado de un padre a su hijo, exhortándole a inclinar su oído a la sabiduría, a clamar por entendimiento, a buscar el conocimiento como plata y como tesoros escondidos. La promesa es que si lo hace, “entonces entenderás el temor de Jehová, y hallarás el conocimiento de Dios” (Proverbios 2:5). La sabiduría es revelación del pacto: de la boca de Jehová provienen la ciencia y la inteligencia. Él reserva la verdadera sabiduría para los rectos y es escudo a los que caminan en integridad.
Esta sabiduría libra del camino de los hombres malos que dejan las sendas de rectitud para andar por sendas tenebrosas, y de la “mujer extraña”, el espíritu de seducción que abandona el pacto de Dios. La sabiduría preserva la vida y la integridad; la insensatez conduce a la ruina y a la separación.
El clímax está en los versículos finales: “Porque los rectos habitarán la tierra, y los perfectos permanecerán en ella; mas los impíos serán cortados de la tierra, y los prevaricadores serán de ella desarraigados” (Proverbios 2:21–22). Esto no es solo un juicio antiguo—es una ley espiritual que atraviesa todo el Evangelio. Jesús dijo: “Toda planta que no plantó mi Padre celestial, será desarraigada” (Mateo 15:13). Proverbios 2:22 anuncia una separación total: los impíos no solo tropezarán, serán cortados y arrancados de raíz.
La sabiduría nos enraíza en la verdad de Dios; la maldad nos deja sin raíz, destinados a caer. Jesús lo confirmó: “Yo soy la vid verdadera, y mi Padre es el labrador. Todo pámpano que en mí no lleva fruto, lo quitará; y todo aquel que lleva fruto, lo limpiará, para que lleve más fruto” (Juan 15:1–2). Permanecer en Cristo es permanecer en la tierra de la promesa; rechazarlo es ser cortado.
De nuevo Jesús advirtió: “Todo árbol que no da buen fruto es cortado y echado en el fuego” (Mateo 7:19). Esto refleja exactamente Proverbios 2:22: los justos permanecen, los impíos son desarraigados. El desarraigo es total. Solo lo que el Padre planta permanece.
La misma verdad se repite en la parábola del trigo y la cizaña: “Dejad crecer juntamente lo uno y lo otro hasta la siega; y al tiempo de la siega yo diré a los segadores: recoged primero la cizaña, y atadla en manojos para quemarla; pero recoged el trigo en mi granero” (Mateo 13:30). La sabiduría preserva el trigo—los rectos que permanecen. La insensatez condena la cizaña—los impíos que son desarraigados.
Por tanto, Proverbios 2:22 es advertencia y promesa: busca la sabiduría como tesoro. En ella hallamos a Cristo, la Palabra hecha carne, nuestra justicia. Rechazarlo es andar en tinieblas y ser cortado. Abrazarlo es permanecer para siempre, arraigados y establecidos en la verdad.
