Start August with a standard, not a wish
August starts now.
That means a lot of people are going to make wishes.
I want to be more consistent.
I want to get focused.
I want to grow my career.
I want to build confidence.
I want to improve my leadership.
I want to make more progress.
I want this month to be different.
That is fine.
But wishes do not change outcomes.
Standards do.
A wish says:
“I hope this month goes better.”
A standard says:
“This is the behavior I will protect.”
A wish says:
“I need to follow up more.”
A standard says:
“Follow-ups happen every Tuesday and Thursday before noon.”
A wish says:
“I need to build more proof.”
A standard says:
“Every Friday, I capture one proof point from the week.”
A wish says:
“I need to stop avoiding hard conversations.”
A standard says:
“When the conversation matters, it gets scheduled instead of carried around mentally.”
A wish says:
“I need to make my value clearer.”
A standard says:
“I will explain my work through problem, action, and outcome.”
That is the difference.
August does not need another motivational reset.
It needs a higher operating standard.
One protected behavior.
One proof-capture rhythm.
One better follow-up system.
One clearer value statement.
One high-leverage action protected each week.
One avoided conversation handled earlier.
One weekly review that actually happens.
The goal is not to make August perfect.
The goal is to make it intentional.
So before this week gets loud, choose the standard.
Not ten of them.
One.
One behavior that would make this week stronger.
One action that would create proof.
One system that would keep August from repeating July’s weak points.
