Food For Thought
"What are you becoming that you didn't know you wanted to become?"
I've been thinking about this question, and I realized that one of the reasons it caught me is because I can actually answer it.
I'm becoming a teacher, a community creator, and a spiritual guide.
None of those are things I ever envisioned for myself.
I knew I would write. That was always somewhere in me. But I never particularly wanted to be published, publicly recognized, or known for my words. Writing was simply something I did because I needed to do it.
I knew I would be spiritual, too. But I never imagined myself becoming someone who would guide, teach, heal, or assist other people along their own paths.
For a very long time, I couldn't really imagine much of a future at all.
I spent a great deal of my life struggling with self-doubt, anxiety, and depression. For years, I thought that feeling that way was simply what being alive felt like. I didn't necessarily question it. I just built my expectations around it.
And somewhere along the way, that began to change.
Over the last decade or so, my life has gradually become something much more grounded, directed, and—perhaps most importantly—my own.
I started believing in possibility.
And once I did, opportunities to put what I knew to use began appearing. I found myself being invited into spaces where my words, my perspective, my curiosity, and my experience could actually be of service to someone else.
I began creating things. Teaching things. Building community. Studying. Exploring. Guiding.
Stability became something I could cultivate rather than something I could only hope for. I learned to live according to my own desires, needs, boundaries, and choices. Peace stopped being something I occasionally stumbled into and became something I considered a standard.
And the more I explored, the more I learned.
The existential ennui that once felt like such a defining feature of my existence simply... stopped having a place in my life.
I didn't set out to become any of these things.
I think that's what fascinates me most.
Somewhere along the way, I became a light bearer without knowing that was the path I was walking.
So now I'm curious about everyone else.
What are you becoming that you didn't know you wanted to become?
Maybe it's a role. Maybe it's a way of being. Maybe it's something you're only beginning to recognize.
And maybe, like me, you didn't choose it so much as eventually look around and realize:
Oh.
This is who I'm becoming.
I'd love to hear yours.
