Mild Steel Tank Header – Fit-Up, Finish, and Lessons
It was built to be fitted above a hydraulic tank, with hoses mounted for intake and return. I capped the tube using flat bar, welded it out, then ground and blended the edges to match the profile of the tube.
After shaping, I finished it with a flap disc and took the time to clean it up and bring it to a smooth, even shine.
Structurally it did exactly what it needed to do, but there are still choices worth breaking down — fit-up, weld sequence, heat control, and how much finishing work is actually worth doing depending on the application.
