Do not descend
Not everything that calls for your attention deserves your focus. Distractions consume your time, divide your mind, and drain your energy. And little by little, they can pull you away from what you are supposed to be building.
In the book of Nehemiah, when his enemies tried to pull him away from rebuilding the wall, he answered: I AM DOING A GREAT WORK AND CANNOT COME DOWN.” Nehemiah 6:3 AMP
Sometimes, you have to make a decision:
-I cannot afford to come down for every argument, opinion, offense, disagreement, provocation, offense, something disguised as an opportunity..
-I cannot come down to waste hrs of scrolling through social media.
-I cannot keep abandoning my assignment every time something demands my attention… Etc.
Whatever is constantly pulling you away from what God has placed in your hands must be examined.
You have work to do! There is something you are supposed to finish!
Hebrews 12:1-2 tells us to strip off every unnecessary weight and the sin that so easily entangles us, and to run with endurance the race set before us, looking away from distractions and fixing our eyes on Yeshua.
Scripture addresses every unnecessary weight and look away from anything that distracts us from the race set before us. Some things may be permissible, but they may be consuming time you need for your assignment. There are conversations that do not need your participation. Opportunities that come to you that are not necessarily connected to your purpose. And some habits need to be disciplined and be brought under self-control because they are stealing hours you cannot get back. So, protect your focus! Guard your time! Steward your energy!
Pay attention to where you are directing your focus. Discernment is necessary. You must recognize what is helping you move forward and what is quietly pulling you away from your purpose. Your attention is valuable. Your time is valuable. Your assignment is valuable!
Keep your eyes on Yeshua. Stay committed to the assignment God entrusted to you. And finish what you started. When distraction tries to pull you away, declare:
“I AM DOING A GREAT WORK AND CANNOT COME DOWN.”
Do not come down. Stay focused. Finish the work. Hallelujah!
