This Saturday – 14th February | Steel Fell Circular, Grasmere
This Saturday we’ll be heading to Grasmere for a classic Lake District circular taking in Steel Fell, Calf Crag, Gibson Knott and Helm Crag.
It’s a brilliant route that gives you a real sense of journey without feeling rushed or extreme. We start with a steady climb out of Grasmere, gaining height gradually before opening out onto wider fell tops with long views across the central Lakes. From there, the route flows nicely across the ridge before descending back towards the valley.
Route details:
  • Distance: ~12 km
  • Ascent: ~690 m
  • Time: Around 4–4.5 hours
  • Difficulty: Moderate hill walk
This is a steady, purposeful walk, plenty of time to take in the views, pause where it feels right and keep the group moving comfortably together. It’s not a race and there’s no pressure to perform.
You’ll need proper walking boots, waterproofs, warm layers, food, and water. As always, we’ll keep an eye on conditions and adjust if needed.
A proper winter Lakeland walk, done at a sensible pace, in good company.
One good walk at a time.
