Three things happened in one day.
I had an interview at a new dealership that morning — eighteen years in automotive sales across South East Queensland, and still walking in nervous, because that never really goes away. That same day, I got the call confirming my place in a small business coaching program. And by the time I got home that evening, I had a head full of ideas for a business I'd been carrying around for years, no clear way to actually build it.
So I did something simple. I googled AI tools. That search led me to Claude, and that night is genuinely where UnderBrella started moving from idea to reality.
In the time since, I've built two products simultaneously: UnderBrella, an Australian life-tracker and marketplace platform organised around four worlds — Drive, Home, Self & Family, and Work — and DrivDesk, a dealership floor management system built from eighteen years of watching what actually goes wrong on a car yard floor.
I share this because founder stories often get polished into something tidier than the truth. Mine started with an overwhelmed evening, a search bar, and a decision not to do it alone. That's the honest version, and I think it's worth telling.
If you're building something solo and feel like you're starting from scratch with no resources — you're probably closer than you think. Sometimes the start is just deciding to ask for help.
