My 27 years in the world’s greatest Navy — at sea across the globe and in combat on the rivers of Iraq — taught me something priceless.
Sometimes all it takes to start someone’s day off right is a simple “thank you.”
A message today from someone whom I had the pleasure of leading as his Command Master Chief Onboard Mighty Warship USS SHOUP (DDG 86) reminded me that leadership doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off — and neither does purpose. Whether you’ve led a division, a team, or a business… the real mission is developing people beyond the title.
Too many leaders chase results and forget to build readiness — for life, for ownership, for what’s next.
I learned that lesson the hard way — in the Navy, during transition, and again as a business owner. The systems change, but the principles don’t:
✅ Lead with gratitude.
✅ Create space for growth.
✅ Build people, not followers.
That’s leadership. That’s legacy. 🚀
Once a Warrior, always a Warrior — no matter your battlefield.
