Why Sensitive People Are Quietly Breaking Under the Weight of Modern Life
Do you ever get the feeling like you don’t really belong on this planet?
Yep, I opened with that. Because I have that feeling quite often.
Mainly when I’m in the woods and conversing with the trees. You see, THEY know what it’s all about. They see how ridiculous we’ve become.
Let’s strip it back to bare bones:
We are these amazing sacks of flesh, who can solve problems and love and experience the most amazing feelings.
And what do we do every day? We put poison in our bodies, worry about non-existent numbers on computer screens, worship celebrities for being famous and put importance on how many of those numbers we can accumulate in a year.
What do we need every day? Food, water, love and shelter.
Who looks happier? More content? Calmer?
We’ve convinced ourselves that progress means productivity and have forgotten the joy in just being.
Why Do Some Thrive On Stress?
Over the years I’ve met many people who claim to love the fast pace of a stressful life. I’ll suffix this with the fact that all of them either got extremely sick from their stress, or ended up losing it all due to mental health issues. I’m not kidding, I knew a millionaire who lost the whole damn lot.
So, when I hear someone say they love the stress or they thrive under pressure, I can see through it instantly. When you’re busy all the time, you have no time to think. No time to heal from what ever it was that drove you to want to fill every waking moment of every day with something other that happiness and calm.
For the longest time, I thought that hard work would pay off. It didn’t. It just made me tired.
The harder I worked, the more stressed I was and the less I had. My income diminished, my time diminished and my stress went up and up. I did the opposite of thriving.
So, really, no one thrives on stress. Some are addicted to it, some use it as a crutch and some use it as a distraction, but no one ever said on their death bed, I wish I’d worked more.
When you find something you love to do, that aligns with your spirit, it will rarely feel like stress.
Why Intelligence Has Nothing To Do With Spiritual Maturity
Right, some of you aren’t going to like what I’m about to say. And guess what, I don’t care. So here it is: I’ve met some really thick people who are more spiritually awake and therefore more successful than some academic professors who use logic and reasoning to justify their misery.
Some of the kindest hearts I’ve met have been people who have spent their lives happily living pay cheque to pay cheque, raising children, having a few pints down the pub on a Friday and reaching retirement with a smile on their face.
Conversely, some of the most miserable, cold hearts I’ve met have spent decades searching for the next big thing only to be perpetually disappointed by their lack of something better. Usually these people have a great car, at least one house, and have money in the bank, just in case.
Now, the kindest hearts didn’t necessarily know how to work with the universe to bring them more because there always has to be some kind of asking for more to arrive. Had they known earlier what was possible, their worlds may have looked very different. Most of them spent a lot of time complaining about things they could never change - football teams, governments, weather, bills. Their lack of focus, cut them off from receiving.
However, that brings us to how things are in the present day. If you’re reading this, I bet my left tit that you’re well aware of the law of attraction and how it works. It’s our time, dear reader! Your spiritual maturity is now your greatest advantage.
Why It’s All Just Too Much
I’m going to assume that you’re a bit like me.
You want a quiet life. You want to help other people. You want things to be peaceful and to be left alone when needed. You want to get out into nature and feel it’s calm.
So when another bill comes, you see taxes being spent where they needn’t, you see another corrupt politician getting away with murder and you have to sit on an over crowded bus or train, your soul screams.
Why? Because the distance between your physical self and your spiritual self is so great it literally hurts.
Some of us shut down. Some break down. Some go quietly mad and end up hurting others.
We, and by we I mean ALL humans, are not built for this constant deluge of images, input, opinions and information. Not without being able to ground and discharge it all on the regular.
Wow - bleak. The answer? Do things that make you happy when ever you can. Make a point of it.
When Being Happy Gets You Everything You Ever Wanted
Yeah, bold heading there, hedge gremlin. If but it were that simple, eh? By all accounts, it is.
Here comes something else you don’t want to hear: you’re not ready to be truly happy!
Think back 20 years, or less if you’re younger. If you had been told then, what you know now about how the universe works, would you have accepted it? Or would you have cast a long side eye at your teacher and muttered a gentle, “yeah, OK”, under your breath?
Think about all the steps that you needed to take, all the knowledge you needed to accumulate to form your current world view. All the experiences, both good and bad you needed to endure to walk the path.
8 billion souls all wondering what the fuck it’s all about and learning step by step what their time on earth is for.
Personally, I’d rather have the experiences than walk inanely around with a huge happy grin on my face never experiencing the lows that accentuate the highs.
So, ask yourself, “Am I really ready to be truly happy? Or do I have so much more yet to learn?”. Our accumulated experiences bring future generations closer to a better earth. You wouldn’t want to deny them that, would you? 😉
