Chase Ink Business Preferred vs. Amex Business Gold 💳
asked and i'm here to answer.... If you've been looking at business credit cards, you've probably come across the Chase Ink Business Preferred and the Amex Business Gold. Both are excellent cards, but they reward very different types of spending. The right choice really comes down to how you run your business.
The Chase Ink Business Preferred is one of my favorite cards for online entrepreneurs because it earns 3X points on travel, shipping, internet, cable, phone services, and advertising purchases made with social media sites and search engines. For only a $95 annual fee, it's hard to beat if your business spends money on things like Facebook ads, Google ads, travel, website expenses, or shipping products to customers. If you're an author, coach, creator, or digital business owner, there's a good chance these are already some of your largest monthly expenses. The Amex Business Gold takes a different approach. Instead of fixed bonus categories, it automatically gives you 4X Membership Rewards points in the two categories where your business spends the most each billing cycle. Those categories can include advertising, software and cloud providers, restaurants, gas stations, wireless phone services, and electronics retailers. If your spending changes from month to month, the card adjusts with you, making it an excellent option for businesses with higher operating expenses. One thing that has made the Business Gold much more attractive recently is the addition of valuable statement credits. Cardholders can receive credits for services like ChatGPT Business, Squarespace, FedEx, Grubhub, office supply stores, and even Walmart+. If you're already paying for these services, those credits can go a long way toward offsetting the higher $375 annual fee.
If your business revolves around travel, digital advertising, shipping, and keeping annual fees low, I'd lean toward the Chase Ink Business Preferred. On the other hand, if your business spends heavily on software subscriptions, advertising, dining, or gas—and you'll actually use the statement credits—the Amex Business Gold can easily provide more value despite the higher annual fee.
Neither card is objectively better. They're simply designed for different business owners. The key is choosing the one that rewards the way you already spend, rather than changing your spending to fit the card.
Personally, I rotate my expenses between the two cards. For example when I am lower on Chase Points, i'll switch my biz spend over to the Chase card to rebuild my points bucket there, and when I'm low on the Amex I switch back, so yes I have both of these cards.
I'm curious—which one is in your wallet? 💙 Chase Ink Business Preferred or 💛 Amex Business Gold? Or are you maximizing rewards by carrying both?
