Here’s how to handle each bureau:
Experian
Phone: 888-397-3742 ( Keep it simple: I’d like to temporarily lift or remove my credit freeze. Or I’d like to remove the fraud alert on my credit report.
They will need to verify your identity before making changes.
Equifax
Phone: 888-298-0045 ( Keep it simple: I’d like to temporarily lift or remove my credit freeze. Or I’d like to remove the fraud alert on my credit report.)
They will need to verify your identity before making changes.
Online: Freeze: Visit Equifax’s Freeze Center. Sign in to myEquifax to temporarily lift or permanently remove your freeze. TransUnion
Phone: 800-916-8800 ( Keep it simple: I’d like to temporarily lift or remove my credit freeze. Or I’d like to remove the fraud alert on my credit report.) They will need to verify your identity before making changes.
A few things to remember:
Each bureau is separate. Removing a freeze or fraud alert at one does not remove it at the others.
A temporary lift may be all you need. Choose dates that cover your lender’s credit check, and your freeze returns afterward.
A fraud alert doesn’t have to be removed to apply. It adds an identity verification step.
