HOW TO RECONSTITUTE
🧬 PEPTIDE EDUCATION: RECONSTITUTION BASICS
One of the most common questions I get is: “How much bacteriostatic water do I use?”
The important thing to understand is that the amount of BAC water determines the concentration of the final solution. It does not change how many milligrams of peptide are actually contained in the vial.
For demonstration purposes, I commonly use 2 mL of BAC water when working with many research-peptide vials because it can make the concentration math straightforward. However, 2 mL is not a universal reconstitution amount. The appropriate diluent, volume, storage conditions, and beyond-use period depend on the specific product and its validated instructions.
When reconstituting a product according to its instructions:
• Use appropriate sterile/aseptic technique.
• Draw the specified amount of BAC water with sterile equipment.
• Introduce the diluent slowly and gently rather than forcefully spraying it into the powder.
• Do not vigorously shake the vial.
• If the product instructions permit it, gently swirl/roll the vial until the material has dissolved.
• Follow the manufacturer's instructions for refrigeration, storage, and expiration after reconstitution.
And remember:
MG = how much compound is in the vial.
mL = how much liquid you've added.
mg/mL = the resulting concentration.
Changing the amount of water changes the concentration, not the total amount of compound in the vial.
⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This video is provided for general educational purposes and demonstrates concepts related to laboratory reconstitution. It is not medical advice or a universal preparation protocol. Different products require different diluents, volumes, handling, storage, and sterility requirements. Follow the manufacturer's validated instructions and applicable pharmacy/clinical guidance for any product intended for human use. Do not use products labeled “research use only” for human administration.
