Finding Calm in Chaotic Times
🌿 Good morning, Healing Circle. 🩷
I’ve been thinking about how difficult it can be to navigate the world right now, especially for those of us who carry a history of trauma.
There is so much noise around us. Uncertainty, conflict, upsetting news, financial worries, division, and constant change. We can barely open our phones without being confronted by something else that asks for our attention—or our fear.
For a nervous system shaped by trauma, uncertainty can feel very familiar.
Many of us learned long ago to watch closely. To read the room. To notice subtle changes. To anticipate what might happen next. Hypervigilance may have once helped us feel prepared when life wasn’t predictable.
But when the world itself begins to feel unpredictable, those old survival responses can quietly wake up again.
You might find yourself checking the news constantly. Feeling anxious without knowing exactly why. Becoming more irritable or emotional. Having trouble sleeping. Feeling exhausted. Or simply carrying that uncomfortable sense that something is wrong.
So I want to remind you of something today:
You can care about what is happening in the world without carrying the weight of the entire world in
your nervous system.
Come back to what is actually here.
Feel your feet on the floor.
Notice your breathing.
Step outside and feel the air.
Have your coffee or tea without scrolling.
Sit with your pet.
Call someone you love.
Pray.
Listen to music.
Put your hands on your heart and remind yourself:
Right now, in this moment, I am here.
Healing doesn’t mean that nothing will ever frighten or unsettle us again. It means we begin recognizing when our old survival responses are taking over—and we learn how to gently bring ourselves home to the present.
And maybe that’s our work in The Healing Circle right now.
Not pretending the world isn’t chaotic.
Not ignoring difficult things.
But learning how to remain rooted when everything around us feels unsteady.
We don’t have to solve tomorrow today.
We don’t have to consume every headline.
We don’t have to prepare ourselves for every possible storm.
Sometimes healing looks remarkably ordinary: making dinner, walking the dog, tending a plant, laughing with someone you love, sitting quietly, praying, creating something beautiful, or simply resting.
Trauma may have taught us how to survive chaos.
Healing teaches us that we are allowed to experience peace—even when the world around us isn’t peaceful. 🌿🩷
Take gentle care of yourselves today, Healing Circle.
What is one small thing that helps bring you back to yourself when the world feels too loud?
