Everyone keeps asking me: "Does SEO still work in 2026?"
So I ran a live test. Here's what I found. 👇
I went to Google. Searched "locksmith Dallas" — one of the most competitive local niches in one of the biggest cities in the US.
No AI overview showed up.
Just ads. Map pack. And organic results.
80% of the search volume for local services is STILL going to organic and maps.
Not ChatGPT. Not AI overviews. Not Bing.
Then I took one of the guys ranking organically — AJ Locksmith — and threw him into Ahrefs.
Here's what I found:
✅ Ranking for 200 keywords
✅ 1,000 people landing on his website every month — organically
✅ 10% call rate = 100 calls/month
✅ Average locksmith job = $150
✅ 40% close rate = 40 customers
✅ 40 x $150 = $6,000/month in revenue
He'll pay you 10–15% of that.
That's $600–$900/month. From one website. In one city.
Now multiply that by 5 cities.
And here's the kicker — when I searched ChatGPT for "best locksmith in Dallas"...
The same guys ranking in Google showed up in ChatGPT too.
