In my journey of building content in YouTube, I learned to stop to talking to everyone when I turned the camera on. This was on the hardest concepts to understand. I was talking with Angel (my wife) about targeting an avatar in her Instagram content. Let play this out.
They always say: “Pick an avatar that’s basically you five years ago.”
So let’s say that makes your avatar 31 years old. At first you might think:
👉🏾 “That’s too narrow. How many 31-year-olds are even out there?”
Here’s the math:
• U.S. population ≈ 335M
• 31-year-olds ≈ 4M
• Half are female → 2M
Now imagine you capture just 1%. That’s 20,000 buyers.
And if your product is $50?
💰 That’s $1,000,000 in revenue.
🔥 The lesson: You don’t need everybody. You just need clarity + consistency.
