Putting stroke
What's your concept of the putting stroke?
I'm not talking about the goal. Obviously, we want to knock the ball in the hole.
And I'm not talking about a method, like straight back and through, a pendulum stroke, or keeping the left arm braced.
I'm talking about how you picture the act of putting.
For me, it's playing pool.
I think of the putter as a cue stick, and I don't want to take my hands out of the stroke. They're incredibly good at controlling speed and direction.
I give my hands two simple jobs:
Right hand controls speed. Left hand provides guidance.
I practice a straight-back-and-through stroke, but when I'm playing, I'm not thinking about the stroke itself.
I'm focused on where I want to strike the ball and how far I want it to roll using the "cue" in my hands.
That's my concept. Not necessarily yours.
So how do you picture putting?
