She just texted this so I’m sharing it!
Ok Robin here are my notes/reflections of my quick day at the National Gallery:
I thought the others may enjoy as well
Some of favorites
Cezane - love love love not in red vest
Monet
Van Gough
Rembrandt
Titian - women with a mirror so intriguing
Definitely enjoyed the French impressionists
Simplicity in portraits of background - expression and posture
Love the emotion and light and shadow of Rembrandt
Italians nice but only so many Madonna and child I can see
Dutch - detail is photo like
Spanish love the playful and bold
Sargent - fabulous
The last 100 or so years has shifted sooooo much.
Art follows the mood of the time
What we deem merit worthy often does not ‘fit’ the art world
Oh and pretty sure Pablo Picasso did a lot of drugs.
What I affirmed/confirmed/relearned about what I like that spills into my photography:
Love light and shadow play
Moody
Do like some bold use of colors
I need to connect to the story or be pulled in
Too much abstract and I do not get along - but do like more abstract landscapes at times.
The power of print - how many digitals will be around in 1000 years like some of the art
