The Stories That Keep Us Locked Inside
Hi Everyone 👋
We've talked about the cages. We've talked about the door being open. But there's something I haven't said yet.
The cage isn't just made of shoulds and algorithms. It's made of stories.
Old ones.
Deep ones.
Ones we've been telling ourselves so long we think they're facts.
I'm not good enough.
I don't deserve better.
This is just how life is.
If I leave, I'll fail.
If I speak up, I'll be rejected.
These stories keep us small. Keep us safe. Keep us stuck.
And most of them aren't even ours. We picked them up somewhere.
From parents.
From teachers.
From a culture that profits from our insecurity.
So here's a question worth sitting with.
What's one story you're telling yourself right now that might not be true?
Not the comfortable one. The one that's holding you back.
I'll go first.
For years, I told myself I wasn't worthy. That I was not good enough. That one day everyone would find out. That story kept me quiet. Kept me playing small.
Then one day I looked at it. Really looked. And I realised that wasn't my voice. It was someone else's. I'd just been carrying it for decades without questioning it.
So now I'm asking you.
What story are you carrying that isn't yours?
Drop it in the comments if you feel called. Sometimes just naming it is enough to loosen its grip.
With Love ❤️
Always
Mark
