Its happening. Diva is struggling more and more with DJD in both elbows. We tried antinol, it gave her chronic sharts and made her miserable, so its back to hemp oil and a salmon based diet, P.E.A. plus from canine ceuticals as well as cartrophen injections every 4 weeks. We also have infra red laser treatments twice a week (have a unit at home) But lately relief is only lasting a week or two before she shows signs of pain 😢
This morning we took a 3km walk to the creek so she could swim, but Diva and "take it slow" isn't something she will do, so now despite her earlier joy shes struggling to get on the couch. (I dont do this often but she needed an outing) We have already cut out fetch, tug/bitework and anything that encourages hard running/sprinting which sadly are most of her favourite things to do. I've just ordered ramps for the house and car and all of her beds are memory foam.
What else can I do to support her? Elbow replacement surgery is not an option as she won't rest enough to heal and it would only decrease her QOL. I will be asking about pain relief in addition to cartrophen at our next vet visit in 2 weeks.
She is a very intense dog and trying to restrict her movement ends up with her vibrating in frustration and ending up putting more strain on herself unless sedated 😒
Video of her getting her swims in as its easier on her joints than running. She is only 7yo 🥺
