🎭 Let’s Talk Gestalt Language Processing!
Have you ever heard your child repeat a phrase from a favorite show, song, video, or something YOU said days ago—and wondered:
💭 “They remembered the whole phrase…but what does it mean?”
💭 “Why do they say the same thing in completely different situations?”
💭 “Should I correct the script or try to get them to say something different?”
This may be part of Gestalt Language Processing (GLP).
Some children use longer chunks of language—or gestalts—as part of how they communicate. And those scripts can carry meaning, even when the meaning isn't immediately obvious to us.
For example, a child saying “Are you ready to go?” might not actually be asking you a question.
That phrase could mean:
🚗 “I want to leave.”
😣 “I'm done with this.”
🎉 “Something exciting is about to happen!”
👋 “It's time to transition.”
The detective work isn't just figuring out WHAT they're saying. It's figuring out what that language means to THEM.
And that's something we're going to dig into during an upcoming LIVE session right here in our Skool community! 🎥💜
We’ll talk about:
✨ What Gestalt Language Processing can look like
✨ Understanding scripts and possible meanings
✨ Ways to respond to echolalia without constantly questioning or correcting
✨ Modeling useful, meaningful language
✨ Supporting GLPs who also use AAC
✨ Following your child's interests and regulation
✨ Real-life examples you can start applying at home
Before the live, I want to hear from YOU! 👇
What is one phrase, script, song lyric, movie quote, or repeated expression your child uses that you haven't quite figured out yet?
Drop it in the comments. 💬
We may use some of your examples during the LIVE to practice becoming GLP detectives together. 🕵️♀️🎭
💜 Connection over compliance. Always.
