No Excuses
Do you know someone who is always comparing themselves to others, and using that as an excuse for their lack of success? It happens both in the business world and in our personal lives. Businesses that are struggling will use excuses for why their competition has more clients. On a personal level, it’s easy for people to make excuses for why they can’t lose weight, why they can’t move up the ladder at work, why they can’t “catch a break” and many other things.
Why do we want to compare ourselves to others who have already achieved what we want, and use what they have, as an excuse for why we don’t or why we can’t? Because it’s easier. The choice you have is this: Do you want to cling to the excuses and remain where you are, or do you want to achieve whatever it is that you want, regardless of the circumstances? Circumstances are real things, and they can hold you back, or they can challenge you to do what others have not been able to do.
In this life, we shouldn’t worry so much about comparing ourselves to anyone else. Your journey is unique to you, and only you can navigate the various challenges along your path. Don’t compare or compete with anyone else. Your competition is you. Here’s the best part about owning it. You also get to claim victories.
Today, stop worrying about what someone else is doing. Instead, focus on being the best version of yourself, and do your best each day. Doing better than you did yesterday and doing that consistently every day will get you across the finish line, in your own time. When you cross that line, you can say what Frank Sinatra said, “I did it my way!”
Something to Think About:
Don't get distracted by all the noise and chatter, and don’t let others give you an excuse to fail at what you want to achieve. Sometimes those who care about us want to give us the excuse for not achieving what we want. They want to protect us from failing. They want us to feel good about the decision not to move forward. That’s not what helps us most though. Stay focused, committed, and steer clear of the noise.
Weekly Activity:
This week, no excuses. Decide what you will and will not do for the level of success that you are looking for. Commit, and be OK with your decision.
