Hey Everyone. I pray you are doing well and staying encouraged. I have a 28 year old forever baby. Her primary diagnosis chromosome deletion with autism.
I started a ministry Designed by God to assist parents and caregivers through faith navigate this journey. The journey is not easy. What I have come to realize are at least three things:
1) That we, our families, our loved ones, belong in this world too and everything it has to offer. (Gen 1:28-29)
2) It is okay to care for ourselves as we care for others (Mark 12:31 'as yourself')
3) Sharing your story with others helps you and the other person. This is when you really truly learn you are not alone. (Rev 12:11)
Based on these realizations, I have several things I am working on to build our community and to take advantage of what God has for us.
A) Unexpected Blessing, Extraordinary Journey: The Caregivers' Journey. Join me and other parents/caregivers as we share our journey in a collaboration sharing our stories (see flyer);
B) The World is Yours Cruise: Let's see the world, I am planning a cruise with DyeHard Travel for families with special needs (and those who are friendly to families with special needs). There is an option to hire professionals for help with loved ones and respite care while on the cruise. Sail date in August (this will be the first cruise for our daughter - I am so nervous - but going to step out on faith and do it with her);
C) Zoefully Living with Dr. D - Tune in to my nationally syndicated radio show - Zoefully Living on Mondays at 2:30 pm as I discuss the Word of God and have special guests to talk about caregiving/parenting.
If you would like to be a guest on the show or be a part of any of the listed, please go to the website - LifeDesignedbyGod.com (for radio show guest click Zoefully Living in menu bar) or message me and let's connect and talk. This journey is better when we are together. I'd really would love to connect with you. What are some of the things you have come to realize during your journey?
Stay Encouraged, Dr. D
