Time is Short - Romans 13:11
Romans 13:11
"And do this, understanding the occasion. The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed".
SHORT STORY -
In 2000, 8 months after my marriage to a girl I had dated for 4 years, I caught her with another man- my best friend and the best-man at my wedding, we obviously separated and later divorced, but with this incident I looked at my life and choices and saw allot of hypocrisy in myself, I was a typical Sunday-keeping Christian (kinda a church mouse, due to poverty & homelessness) I read in Matthew,
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the person who does what my Father in heaven wants. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we force out demons and do many miracles by the power and authority of your name?’ Then I will tell them publicly, ‘I’ve never known you. Get away from me, you evil people.
This Scripture woke me up & scared me! What would I do if I came to the end and kept following the same path & this was the answer I got when I met Jesus? So I prayed and asked God,
"If I am to call myself a 'Christian' what does that mean & what does that look like- to You, Father?"
Well fast forward 25 years & I'm still correcting bad choices (being recently released from prison) but God in His loving kindness has taken me on a journey that included two cross-country bicycle rides over a 1000 miles, the longest in 2006 from Grants Pass, Oregon to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, with just me & my dog, to discover the truth of our faith, & His desire for His children to seek Him with a Whole Heart, and obey, NOT 'For' salvation, but because of it. I have learned allot in these years & in no way am I saying 'I got it all together' but I understand it soo much more today than when I started my faith walk as a teen back in the early 80's.
The biggest take away from it all is a Scripture He gave me some years back:
Yahweh is my strength and my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
Nations come to you from the most distant parts of the world and say,
“Our ancestors have inherited lies, worthless and unprofitable gods.”
“People can’t make gods for themselves. They aren’t really gods.
That is what I will teach them.
This time I will make my power and my strength known to them.
Then they will know that my name is Yahweh.”
We have been taught by men & not by God Himself & in doing so, allot of false teaching has crept into modern Christianity.
It is my desire to encourage you, my fellow brothers & sisters the true understanding of Scripture & some of the practices & traditions that are not Biblical and encourage you to do what Scripture teaches above the 'commandments of men' & don't take my word for it, as it is in Acts 17:11, to be like the Bereans. The phrase "to be Berean" today means to be a diligent student of the Bible who verifies teachings against Scripture.
"they received the message with eagerness while simultaneously searching the Scriptures daily to confirm if Paul’s teachings about Jesus as the Messiah were true."
The other Scripture passage that correctly portrays todays modern Christianity is this:
Jeremiah 6:16 (Name of God):
"This is what Yahweh says:
Stand at the crossroads and look.
Ask which paths are the old, reliable paths.
Ask which way leads to blessings.
Live that way, and find a resting place for yourselves.
But you said that you wouldn’t live that way."
I pray, you heed the warning as the days grow darker, it is past time to draw closer to the light, that light is the light of truth & there is only ONE truth, but many varying degrees of error.
We are saved by grace though faith, but AFTER our salvation it is our duty to walk in obedience to the Fathers instruction. If the Father said DO this, or DON'T do this, should we not just obey, because He said so?
