Birds on a stick?
Static bird images leave me cold. Birds are alive and lively and I want to try and capture that. But sometimes they're static and I still want a record in which case I wait and try at least for eye contact or I try to get down to their level for the intimacy that that can bring.
Kneeling or lying down is the single best and cheapest thing I know of to improve my shots.
Here's two of the most handsome birds I've seen: static, more or less, but with with eye contact in one case and shared space in the other. The first is an immature Antarctic Tern (Snares Is. New Zealand) and the second is a male Upland Goose (Patagonia).
