Real talk: most credit repair fails before the first letter goes out.
Why? Because your personal info section on the report is dirty.
5 old addresses. 3 name variations. 2 employers from 2014. The bureaus' automated system (e-OSCAR) uses ALL of that data to "verify" old debts when you dispute them.
Clean it up FIRST. Then dispute. Wins go up 30-50%.
Your credit report should ONLY show:
β
1 NAME (your correct legal name)
β
1 ADDRESS (current one only)
β
1 SSN
β
1 EMPLOYER (or none)
Anything else = ammo for the bureaus to deny your disputes.
THE 5-MINUTE FIX:
- Pull all 3 reports at AnnualCreditReport.com
- 2. Go to PERSONAL INFORMATION section on each
- 3. Make a list of EVERY old address, name, employer, etc.
- 4. Write a "Personal Info Cleanup Letter" to each bureau (deep dive in the Classroom β Before Disputing β Step 1)
- 5. Include: copy of your ID + a recent utility bill
- 6. Mail certified to:
- β’ Equifax β P.O. Box 740256, Atlanta, GA 30374
- β’ Experian β P.O. Box 4500, Allen, TX 75013
- β’ TransUnion β P.O. Box 2000, Chester, PA 19016
30 days later β fresh report β ONE of everything β NOW dispute.
This single move is the difference between disputes that land and disputes that get auto-verified.
