It’s surprisingly easy for humans to take what we have for granted. Our minds are designed to adapt quickly to what becomes familiar. Things that once felt exciting, meaningful, or even miraculous slowly start to feel normal. When something becomes normal, we stop noticing it.
This is often called adaptation or the “hedonic treadmill.” We naturally shift our focus from what we already have to what we don’t have yet.
