π Swear Spotlight: Ancient Greek Donkey Insult π΄π©
Not all swears are βfuckβ and βshit.β Some cultures went wildly creative.
Following our previous post on donkey insults from ancient Egypt, letβs take a look at parallel cross-cultural evolution of donkey insults.
In Ancient Greece, one of the nastiest things you could call someone was basically:
π βSon of a donkeyβs shit-eater.β
Yeah. Imagine saying that across the agora. Brutal, specific, and humiliating.
Whatβs cool is it shows how swears are snapshots of culture: in a world where donkeys were everywhere, this hit way harder than βpiece of shitβ does today.
