Cancer is part of my story, but it isn’t who I am
Hi, I’m Julie — or Julz if we’re already feeling comfy.
I’m the founder of The Shine Lounge, a gentle online space for women who give a lot to everyone else and need somewhere soft to land themselves.
I’m 53, based in Brisbane, a two-time cancer survivor, and someone who learned the hard way that life is too short to spend burnt out, chasing perfection, or putting yourself last on the list.
Cancer is part of my story, but it isn’t who I am. What it did give me was clarity. A louder reminder that rest matters. Joy matters. And women deserve spaces where they don’t have to earn a moment for themselves.
Before all of this, I spent years in the corporate world across business development, procurement, and project management. These days I run a small personal training and group fitness business from home, working mostly with midlife women, seniors, and people with disabilities. Helping people move better, feel stronger, and reconnect with confidence still lights me up.
Somewhere along the way, I realised movement was only part of the puzzle.
So many women I met were carrying invisible weight: stress, mental load, loneliness, identity shifts, menopause, motherhood, business pressure, and the constant feeling of needing to hold it all together.
That’s why I created The Shine Lounge.
A calm, welcoming community where women can pause, breathe, and reconnect with themselves without pressure, guilt, or another impossible to-do list.
Inside you’ll find:
• guided meditations and calming audio resets
• gentle movement and feel-good wellness tools
• journaling prompts and reflective moments
• monthly Shine Drops to reset and recharge
• real conversations with kind women who get it
No guru energy. No perfection parade. Just grounded support and a softer way to do life.
I’m also building my next heart-led project: Bring Back Pen Pals — a dedicated letter-writing community for women craving slower, meaningful connection in a fast world.
Think handwritten letters, themed exchanges, happy mail, stationery joy, thoughtful prompts, and the kind of anticipation we used to feel when something special arrived in the letterbox.
Because not everything meaningful has to happen on a screen.
𝐌𝐲 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞:
To create spaces where women feel seen, supported, lighter, and more like themselves again.
Whether that happens through a meditation, a gentle workout, a journaling prompt, or a handwritten letter from a new friend… I’m here for all of it.
If you’d like to be the first to know about the new Pen Pal community, or register for our next exchange, you’re warmly welcome there.
If The Shine Lounge sounds like your kind of easy-paced community, come join us.
And if you’d like to explore the kinds of resources I create to bring a little joy back into your day, you can also wander through my newly opened Payhip store.
Wherever you find me, you don’t need fixing. You might just need a softer place to land. 💛
