Moving Forward From Your Past —
The Real Work
“…forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13–14 (KJV)
Family,
This week is not about your past.
We’ve already acknowledged it.
We’ve prayed through it.
We’ve grown from it.
What we’re addressing now is what it looks like to move forward and stay forward.
Because moving forward is not just about where you are in life.
It’s about how you show up in the life you’re in now.
Paul said, “forgetting those things which are behind…”
Not erasing them.
Not pretending they didn’t happen.
But making a decision that they no longer have permission to influence how you think, how you respond, or how you move.
And this is where it becomes real.
Because you can be in a completely different place in your life and still have moments where something familiar tries to surface.
A thought that doesn’t align with who you are now.
A reaction that feels like an old version of you trying to respond.
A pattern that attempts to reintroduce itself in subtle ways.
Because anything that was practiced consistently… will try to show up again.
And this is where a lot of people get confused.
They think, “I thought I was past this.”
You are.
But that doesn’t mean it won’t try you.
It just means now you have to handle it differently.
Because at this level, it’s not about the feeling showing up.
It’s about what you do when it does.
When a thought comes that doesn’t align, you don’t follow it all the way through.
You catch it.
And you make a decision right there.
“That’s not how I think anymore.”
When a reaction starts to rise…you don’t let it fully play out.
You pause.
You choose how you’re going to respond.
That’s the interruption.
Not loud.
Not dramatic.
But intentional.
Because if you let it sit…it will start building again.
A thought becomes a feeling.
A feeling becomes a response.
And now you’re operating from something you already outgrew.
So now the work looks different.
It’s catching it early.
Right when it shows up and deciding:
“This doesn’t get access to me anymore.”
Paul said, “I press…”
Which means forward is not automatic.
It’s intentional.
It’s a decision you make in real time.
And this is the real work!!!
Not becoming someone new.
Becoming consistent with who you already are.
Because there are areas in your life where you have already changed.
Your awareness is different.
Your standards are different.
Your discipline is different.
Now it’s about maintaining that.
Because forward is not proven by distance.
It’s proven by consistency.
And the way you stay free is by making sure what you left behind does not continue to live through you.
Ask Yourself
1️⃣ What from your past do you feel like you’ve already moved on from… but you still see traces of it in how you think, react, or move?
2️⃣ When those moments show up, what does it actually look like for you in real life?
3️⃣ What tends to pull me out of alignment the quickest?
4️⃣ Do you feel like this season is more about:
A) healing
B) maintaining your growth
C) becoming someone new
5️⃣ Where do you notice the biggest difference in yourself compared to the “old you”?
6️⃣ What part of my growth requires more consistency, not more understanding?
7️⃣ Where do I need to be more decisive instead of going back and forth internally?
Keys to Stay Forward
1️⃣ Decide who you are now and move from that place
Clarity removes confusion in how you respond
2️⃣ Catch misalignment
The sooner you recognize it, the easier it is to correct
3️⃣ Do not entertain what you’ve outgrown
What you dwell on will try to rebuild
4️⃣ Stay disciplined in your thinking
Your mind is where patterns attempt to return
5️⃣ Choose your response wisely
You are not required to act on every feeling
6️⃣ Honor your growth
Move like the version of you that has already changed
7️⃣ Be consistent
That’s what sustains your freedom
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the growth You have already done in me.
Thank You that I am not who I used to be.
Now teach me how to remain in that.
Give me awareness in the moments that matter.
Help me recognize anything that is not aligned with who I am now.
Strengthen my discipline.
Refine my responses.
Stabilize my thinking.
Let me not be led by what is familiar,
but by what is aligned.
I will not go backwards.
I will move forward with consistency, clarity, and self-control.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Decree & Declare
1️⃣ I decree and declare that I am consistent in how I think, respond, and move.

4️⃣ I decree and declare that my thoughts align with truth and not familiarity.
