The first time I watched Airplane! it was the dubbed version in Spanish (I was an ’80s kid living in Panama, Central America). Later, in the ’90s, I saw it again in its original language, this time with all its wordplay and puns. Of course, a lot of that humor gets lost in translation.
But the beauty of spoofs is that much of the comedy is universal. You don’t always need words—sometimes the funniest moments are happening in the background, or right in your face.
When I saw my first spoof as a kid, I knew instantly that this was what I wanted to do someday. And I did. Now, I just hope to take it to the next level—learning from this masterclass.
