Spiritual openness vs Spiritual Strength
Lots of spiritual teachers and seekers speak of the need to “open”, to free our minds, to open ourselves up to receive spiritual guidance, insight and experiences. This opening is a yearning for many people at this time.
But is “opening” all we need to do?
We can become so open, that we lose the ground underneath our feet.We can lose our ability to function in the world. We can also open ourselves up to forces and beings that don't have our best interests at heart.
Some people work hard to open themselves, but have no clue as to what it is they are opening up to. We need to have discernment in this area to remain spiritually (and mentally safe).
This brings us to the difference between spiritual openness and spiritual strength…or soul-strength both of which are connected to the heart.
Spiritual openness involves letting go, trusting, allowing and giving ourselves up to what reveals itself.
Spiritual/soul strength is about making:
1. Our thinking clear, logical and grounded
2. our feelings/emotional-life balanced
3. our will strong so that we can follow through on our insights, aims and goals.
These all keep us grounded in the world and make us able to take our spiritual insights and make them bear fruit in the earthly world. Otherwise, what’s the use of them?
Spiritual and soul strength is just as important as being spiritually open.
In the online group sessions (starting soon!) we'll be looking at some ways to develop our spiritual strength. Stay posted?
