I Removed Reminders… And My Hookers Didn't Arrive
This morning I ran a simple experiment inside my own community, (I do love an experiment) and I wanted to share it here because I think it highlights something really important for all of us building on Skool.
Every week I host Hookers Anonymous, a live coffee & chat, and we usually have a steady 4–6 people join live.
Normally, I post a few reminders leading up to it. Nothing over the top, just a couple of nudges so it’s front of mind.
But today, I did something different.
I didn’t post a single reminder.
No “we’re starting soon”
No “going live in 10 minutes”
Nothing at all.
I let Skool do its thing. the countdown at the top, the calendar, the live banner.
And the result?
Almost no one showed up, only one lovely lady after half an hour, we did have a lovely chat though
Now, this isn’t about people not wanting to come, because they usually do. This was the same time, same session, same community.
The only thing that changed, was the reminders.
What this really highlighted for me, is this:
💠 Reminders aren’t annoying, they’re necessary
💠 “It’s in the calendar” isn’t enough on its own
💠 People don’t miss things because they don’t care, they miss them because life happens
We’re all busy. Even when we want to show up, it’s so easy for something to slip past without that gentle nudge at the right time.
So for me, this experiment made it very clear:
Reminders aren’t about chasing people, They’re about supporting them to show up.
Definitely a small test, but a really valuable one, and a good reminder (ironically!) of how we can better serve our communities
