I was having a one on one with one of our community members talking about strumming.
She mentioned that the rhythm is the drummers job not the job of the guitar player thus she shouldn’t have to practice with the metronome.
Well I’m not one to sugar coat things.
Any instrument you play outside of the rhythm is not making music, it’s just making noise.
Music is “notes played in rhythm”
It may be an alternating rhythm or a swing rhythm. But it’s always in rhythm.
Strumming in time is the thing that separates a guitar player that asks the family or friends “hey can I play you a song?” And the guitar player that gets asked “hey can you play with us this Sunday?”
When you practice, slow the metronome down to whatever speed you need it to be so that you hit every note perfectly on time. Then practice speeding up.
(Pro tip: sometimes faster is easier than slower)
