Hey guys, thanks in advance for any feedback on this:
Olivia Pollerd (Santa Clara) is currently ranked about number 4 in the nation for 3pt Percentage. She is from my home town here in Melbourne, Australia and I have been working her out during the off season for the past 3-4 years.
Mechanically speaking, she doesn't shoot the ball well (stereotypically) and a lot of her movements go against what I would teach but she is absolute cash. Unfortunately, I don't have any video resources of her shooting from this season so I can't show any examples. Anytime I work her out, I don't touch her mechanics and she is incredibly stubborn about changing footwork or adding in variations of her already exsisting footwork (she's a close friend so I'm sure she won't mind me calling her stubborn), I just focus on getting as many reps up as possible with as much variability in different types of situations against different coverages. I also aim to add as many decision making elements in as possible to create realistic scenarios that she'll face.
My question is, am I approaching this in the right way or should I be more encouraging of her to make some slight changes to her mechanics that may help increase her shooting percentage? I believe I am doing the right thing but I am also open for feedback or improvements on my coaching in order to further help the players I work with... Thanks again in advance for any feedback given.
