Never Miss When Claude Code Needs You (macOS, 5 min setup)
Ever kick off a Claude Code task, switch windows, and come back 20 minutes later to find it just sitting there waiting? Here's a fix: desktop notifications that ping you the moment it needs input or finishes, from any window. Click the notification and it jumps you straight into VS Code.
🔴 Red = needs your input
🟢 Green = task done
🟡 Yellow = something errored
Step 1: Install requirements
brew install terminal-notifier jq
Step 2: Add the script (attached below: notify.sh)
mkdir -p ~/.config/claude mv ~/Downloads/notify.sh ~/.config/claude/notify.sh chmod +x ~/.config/claude/notify.sh
Check 'which code' first, if it's not /usr/local/bin/code on your machine, open the script and update the CODE_BIN line.
Step 3: Wire it into Claude Code (attached below: settings-hooks-snippet.json)
open -e ~/.claude/settings.json
Merge the attached hooks JSON into your settings.json. Don't overwrite anything else already in there.
Step 4: Turn on notifications
System Settings, then Notifications, find terminal-notifier, allow everything.
Step 5: Test it
echo '{"cwd":"'"$HOME"'/Downloads","last_assistant_message":"Done"}' | ~/.config/claude/notify.sh done
Green banner should pop up, click it to jump into VS Code.
If nothing shows up: check Focus/Do Not Disturb mode, and try killall NotificationCenter to restart the notification daemon.
Download the snippets below, that works for me. Thanks
