Over the years in hospitality, I’ve learned this truth:
It’s not just what we do for our guests —
It’s how we make them feel that they’ll never forget.
For me,
Emotional Intelligence is the invisible skill that turns a service into a story worth remembering.
Here’s how I practice Dr. Daniel Goleman’s 5 pillars in my daily work:
1️⃣ Self-Awareness
↳ I check in with my emotions before I greet a guest. Presence can’t be faked.
2️⃣ Self-Regulation
↳ I train myself to respond with grace, even in the busiest rush.
3️⃣ Motivation
↳ I keep the long-term relationship in mind, not just today’s transaction.
4️⃣ Empathy
↳ I try to feel what my guests feel — often before they say a word.
5️⃣ Social Skills
↳ I focus on building connections that last far beyond the check-out.
Because in the end, hospitality isn’t just about service.
It’s about serving with soul.
