When I was a kid, learning to ride a bike felt impossible. I wobbled, fell, and scraped my knees. But I kept at it because I saw the big kids zooming around. Sales is the same—you wobble at first, but with practice, you get smoother.
1. Start Small, Like Training Wheels – My first cold call was terrible, but I kept practicing with a simple script until I nailed it. Start with basics like 10 calls a day and build from there.
2. Watch the Pros – I learned humor from a top SDR's call and started using it. Listen to successful salespeople or watch their videos. What’s one thing they do that you can try this week?
3. Practice in Front of a Mirror – Before a big interview, I practiced in the mirror and noticed my confidence improved. Record yourself or role-play with a friend to rehearse and get better.
4. Get Comfortable with "No" – After 15 rejections, I booked a meeting on call #16. Don’t take rejection personally—it’s a step closer to a “yes.”
5. Keep Learning – A friend who was already a top SDR started reading one sales book a month. His curiosity helped him uncover pain points and close more deals. Never stop learning—watch videos, read books, and join coffee chats.
6. Celebrate Wins – The first time I booked a meeting, I did a little happy dance. Celebrate every win—it builds momentum and excitement.
So, where are you in your "bike-riding" journey? Wobbly? Getting the hang of it? Ready to zoom?
