Here’s what’s relevant about biblically in digital business:
1. Work and diligence apply online too
Digital business is still work, and the Bible has a lot to say about that:
Colossians 3:23
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Whether you’re running a Shopify store or freelancing on Upwork, the attitude matters.
-Proverbs 21:5
“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” Digital business rewards planning, testing, and consistency.
2. Honesty and integrity in trade
Online selling makes it easy to hide things, but the standard doesn’t change:
Proverbs 11:1
“The Lord detests dishonest scales, but delights in accurate weights.” That’s about not scamming customers with fake products, misleading ads, or hidden fees.
Ephesians 4:28
“Anyone who has been stealing must steal no more, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.” The goal of work is to provide and be able to give.
3. Stewardship of resources and skills
Your phone, laptop, internet, and skills are “talents” in the parable sense:
Matthew 25:14-30
The Parable of the Talents. God expects us to use what we’re given to create value, not bury it out of fear. A digital business can be a modern way of “investing the talents.
-1 Peter 4:10
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.” If you have a skill that can help people online, that fits.
4. Contentment and avoiding greed
Digital business can tempt you with “get rich quick” schemes:
1 Timothy 6:9-10
Warns against the love of money and chasing wealth at any cost.
Hebrews 13:5
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have.”
5. Serving people through business
The Bible frames work as service:
Mark 10:45
The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” A good digital business solves real problems for people, whether it’s a course, a product, or a service.
Bottom line
The Bible treats digital business the same as any other work. It’s morally neutral. It becomes good or bad based on _how_ you run it — with honesty, diligence, service to others, and without letting money become your master.
If you have a specific type of digital business in mind
- dropshipping, YouTube, freelancing, crypto, etc. I can go through the principles that apply most directly to that one.
