Fixing Our Eyes on the Eternal
We live in a world that constantly tells us to focus on temporary things—what we eat, drink, drive, and wear. Culture teaches us to measure success by what we own or how we look. But Scripture calls us to something very different: to fix our eyes on what truly lasts.
Biblical Foundation
Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 4:16–18 (NIV®):"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
Paul’s perspective shows us that even when life feels heavy, we are being renewed inwardly. He understood that trials are temporary, but God’s glory is eternal.
Key Truths
  1. The World’s Focus is Temporary
  2. God’s Focus is Eternal
  3. Our Call: Shift Our Perspective
Application
  • Evaluate Priorities: What consumes most of your time and energy—earthly concerns or eternal pursuits?
  • Practice Renewal: Set aside daily time in Scripture and prayer to strengthen your inner life.
  • Invest Eternally: Look for ways to serve, give, and share Christ that have lasting impact.
Conclusion
If we want to live triumphantly in this season, we must do what Paul did: fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen. Earthly investments disappear, but eternal investments will never fade.
