🔊 Daily Pronunciation Tip
One small sound can completely change a word.
Listen to this pair:
ship /ʃɪp/
sheep /ʃiːp/
The only difference is the vowel length. When you see the two dots, the sound is long.
Short sound → ship
Long sound → sheep
That small difference can change meaning in conversation.
Try saying them slowly:
ship
sheep
ship
sheep
Notice how the /iː/ sound in sheep is longer.
💬 Your turn
Can you think of another pair like this?
Example:
live / leave
