If you’ve ever been on a hip abduction machine, that is the exact motion I suggest you replicate, without going too far, in order to get in position. Let your glutes help you!
Foot stability is crucial for single leg movements as it can affect each joint going up chain, so make sure that you are planted before going into your lunge.
When facing a mirror, look at where your knee lines up! You want to make sure that your knee is lined up with your ankle & toes. This gives you a solid structure to push off the ground with.
Bonus: Try lunging with flat/barefoot shoes or no shoes at all. The extra thick soles of some shoes won’t provide you the stability you need to perform these effectively no matter how nice they are👟
