Title: The Listening Audit: Are You Present or Just Waiting to Talk?
Hey Tribe,
In three decades behind the barber chair, I watched men sit down defended, arms crossed and phone in hand—and twenty minutes later, they were sharing their deepest challenges: a business setback, a marriage on the rocks, a diagnosis, or a dream they hadn't told anyone else.
People often ask me, "Travis, how did you get so many people to open up?"
The secret was simple: I stopped waiting to speak, and I started truly listening.
In a world where everyone is shouting for attention, genuine listening has become a rare superpower. Too often in our daily interactions—with our families, our teams, our clients, or our peers—we aren't fully in the room. We are half-glancing at notifications, checking the clock, or mentally rehearsing our next reply while the other person is still speaking.
That is why Reflection must examine our presence, not just our productivity.
When you fail to listen deeply, you miss the room. You miss the subtle cues, the unspoken resistance, and the opportunity to truly lead. Taking a moment on a Wednesday to audit your presence reminds you that real authority isn't about having all the answers—it is about offering the discipline of undivided attention.
Presence is the highest form of respect.
Today’s Community Prompt:
Reflect on your conversations over the last 48 hours. Have you been fully present, or has your mind been divided? What is ONE conversation today where you are committing to put the phone face down and give 100% of your attention?
Drop your commitment in the comments below! Let’s sharpen our presence together.
