A Building Is Not The Thing.
There's a lot of noise right now about second chances. New programs, new funding, states finally putting reentry work on the yards they used to skip. Some of it's real. Some of it'll help. Take what you can use.
But I'll tell you what I know. When I came home after 23 years, the paperwork wasn't the hard part. The services weren't the hard part. It was walking into a world that moved on without me and having nobody around who understood what that actually felt like.
A program can hand you a resource. It can't hand you a man who's already walked the road you're standing on. That's what I was missing. That's why this room is here.
So here's what I'm asking. Drop a comment and tell us who you are. Where you're at right now — inside, just home, or waiting on somebody. First name's enough. You don't have to have it figured out. You just have to show up and say it out loud.
That's how it starts. Lace up your boots.

Home from prison and still can't get right out here? Separate the man you are now from the file that followed you out.
